Shih Tzu is a tiny breed of ancient dogs from china famous for its long silky fur and often known as Chinese Lion Dog. Shih Tzu is common in the United States but the ancestors are from from China only. Shih Tzu is also known by another popular Chinese Name ” Xi Shi”, the most beautiful woman of ancient China. Many people also know it as Tibetan Lion Dog. Shih Tzu is a small dog with short muzzle, large deep eyes and a soft, double and long coat.

Weight of Shih Tzu is 4-7 kg and height is 8-11 inches, The average lifespan of Shih Tzu is 10-15 years. The coat comes in gold, dark and light brown, white, black, white and brindle. One of the most noticeable features of Shih Tzu is the underbite. The long silky coat reaches up to the floor and besides regular trimming, the coat is generally kept in its natural state. Shih Tzu is a lively, happy, alert, loyal and fun loving breed of dogs who make friends easily and respond well to training. Being courageous and clever, Shih Tzu are often used as watchdogs besides an excellent companion.

Mutt is a term for the mixed breeds of dogs that has characteristics of two or more types of dogs and often the ancestry is unknown. Mixed breed is in contrast to the cross breed, which essentially means intentional cross breeding of two different and known pure breeds of dogs. Mutt vary in size, shape, colors, characteristics and temperaments and it is often difficult to classify or assign them physically.

Mutt or mixed breeds are also named based on the geography, behavior or food. For example, mixed breeds are known as Poi Dogs in Hawaii; In The Bahamas, the term is Potcakes for the mixed breeds; In South Africa, mixed breed dogs are known as Pavement Specials; Philippines call the mixed breeds as Askals, street dogs. In addition to the geographical names, mixed breeds are also known by some slang terms such as Heinz 57, Cracky, Bitsa or Mongrel. Mutt typically weigh around 18 kg and stand tall between 15-24 inches. They are light brown or black in color.

Dingo or Australian Native Dog is an ancient and primitive dog unique only to the Australian Continent. It is believed that the ancestors of Dingo arrived in Australia with people from Southeast Asia thousands of years ago during the time when the dogs were not domesticated by humans. That is why the features of Dingo resemble wild Asian Gray Wolf. Being Apex predators and the largest terrestrial predators, Dingos play a crucial role in the various ecosystems of Australian Continent.

Although important to the ecosystems but the conservation efforts often fail because dingos have a habit of attacking sheep, which makes them pest for the sheep industry that tries to get rid of dingos by killing them. Dingo has a broad head with pointed muzzle, erect ears and the color of eyes vary from yellow to orange to brown. The average weight of dingo is between 13 to 20 kg and the height is 50-60 cm and body length of around 120 cm. Male dingos are larger than females. The coat is short, bushy on the tail and it varies in thickness and length depending upon the climate. The coat color comes in sandy to reddish brown with occasional tan, black or light brown.

Zucho, Shichon or Teddy Bear is a hybrid dog between Bichon Frise and Shih Tzu. A small dog with short history, Zuchon was created just at the turn of the twenty first century. Zuchon has a height of about 12 inches and weighs not more than 12-14 pounds. A non shedding type of dog, Zuchon is great for house pets because it keeps the house clean but requires regularly grooming and maintenance. Being a hybrid of two pure breeds and also being the first generation of Zuchon dogs has no history of lifespan but the life expectancy is around 15 years.

Brittany Spaniel is a breed of gun dog that has been developed primarily for birds hunting. It is also known as American Spaniel, and Brittany Pointer, and it was developed in the Brittany Province of France in the 1800s. Brittany Spaniel is a hearty, medium sized dog with almost same height at shoulders as the length of the body. They are athletic, compact and will-built breeds of dogs with distinctive long legs.

Brittany Spaniels have a rounded and wedge shaped head with medium length muzzle and nose with wide nostrils. Eyes are of dark brown colors and often the color of eyes varies with the color of coats. Ears are high-set and triangularly shaped. Their feet are small with well arched toes and thick pads. They have a medium length, lightly feathered and flowing single coat that comes in various colors including orange and white, liver and white, black and white and liver tricolor. Brittany Spaniel is an intelligent, obedient, loyal, happy, alert and easy to train dog. They are very active, affectionate and independent breeds of dogs. The weight of an adult make Brittany Spaniel is between 15-29 kg and the height is between 17-20 inches.

Boxer or German Boxer is a breed of stocky, compact and powerful dog from Germany. Boxer is a medium to large sized, short haired breed with broad and short skulls. With their square muzzle, strong jaws and powerful bite, Boxers are suitable for holding on to the prey for long time. Boxer was developed by cross breeding English Bulldog and Bullenbeiser (mastiff breed and now extinct) and were first exhibited in St. Bernard, Munich in 1895.

The head, the most distinctive feature, of Boxer is proportionate to the body, the nose is large with open nostrils, eyes are dark brown and ears are high-set. Their neck is round, strong and muscular and front legs are straight and parallel with well-muscled back legs.
