Dachshund is a short-legged and long breed of dogs from hound family. Dachshund, a native of Germany, was developed to scent, chase and hunt badgers and other burrows dwelling animals and a miniature variety of Dachshund was also developed for hunting smaller animals such as rabbits. The German word Dachshund means a badger dog and the name Dachshund has come out of it. Owing to the long and narrow build, Dachshund are often nicknamed as hot dog dog or sausage dog or Wiener dog. Dachshund is perhaps the only breed of dog that can hunt below as well as above ground.

Dachshund comes in three varieties standard, miniature and rabbit and it has been categorizes into three varieties depending upon the coat short haired, long haired and wired haired. They have long and muscular body with short and stubby legs and with unusually large and paddle shaped paws that are used for efficient digging in the ground. Standard variety of Dachshund weighs around 15-30 pounds and miniature weighs about 10 pounds. They are often referred to as ‘two-dogs-long” or “half-dog high and one-and-half long. Their unique characteristics of long breed has made Dachshund an easily identifiable breed of dog and they have also become very popular in jokes and cartoons.

Labrador or Labrador Retriever is a gun dog and one of several breeds of retriever dogs that has originated in Canada. Labrador is renowned for its excellent swimming capabilities and its webbed paws, which make it possible for it to possess excellent swimming capabilities. Labrador is one of the most common and favorite breeds of dogs registered in Canada, United States and United Kingdom. It is also perhaps one of the most widely employed dogs by Police and other agencies for its acute detection and working abilities.

Labradors are highly athletic and energetic dogs that love to play catch and retrieve games and swim and love to play with children. Weight of a male Labrador is about 25-35 kg and height is around 24-26 inches. The coat of Labrador is dense and short and water resistant and it comes in yellow, black and chocolate colors. It has a strong and muscular body with a broad head and expressive eyes with brown or hazel color. Labradors are well balanced, stout, friendly and versatile dogs suitable for various functions including good pets.
